MARGIE LUTJEN BRIGGS was born in Windsor, Missouri. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1966, and married Dick Briggs while still in high school. Together, Margie and Dick raised three children: Richard, Heather and Taylor. Margie is a grandmother of nine.
As a layperson, Margie was active in the Creighton Unite Methodist Church and in United Methodist Women (UMW), a faith-based membership organization of laywomen in the United Methodist Church. Serving as district president if the UMW and dean of the Missouri School of Christian Mission, Margie was later asked to pastor both Calhoun United Methodist Church and Drake’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was elected to attend General Conference seven times (between 1996 and 2016). Margie served as a board member for the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women from 1996 to 2004, and on the General Board of Church and Society from 1996 to 2012.
Margie became a certified lay minister in 2008. In 2010 she was recipient of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award and the John Bennett Award for Excellence in Rural Ministry
